At Buffalo Conversation 3, Bruce Katz of the Brookings Institute stated, "The more local government you have, the less growth you have." Large, multi-layered goverments are simply not nimble enough to respond to the changes in the local business environment. When recruiting large companies to Western New York, having a single government will greatly increase our ability to add jobs to our local economy.
With seven local Industrial Development Agencies competing for new business, it is not surprising that business can pit one goverment against the other to quickly get the best deal. Alternatively, many businesses are confused by the multiple local agencies, and simply elect to locate in Charlotte, North Carolina. |
